Description

The Ōpōtiki District Council is realigning to better meet the Council’s new aspirations for the District’s future, and to strengthen the way in which it provides services to its communities. A new refreshed and future focused senior management structure has been established, which has resulted in the creation of this new Group Manager position that will report to the Chief Executive.

This new Group Manager (GM) Strategy and Development role will be a highly influential position in the organisation, and will be responsible for leading the delivery of integrated organisational planning and strategy development. The key functions that the GM will be responsible for leading, will include Long Term, Annual and Asset Management planning, as well as ensuring that District and spatial planning support growth and meet legislative requirements. You will also be responsible for ensuring that regulatory and consenting functions are strongly customer centric, and that there are strong community and iwi relationships and partnerships.

It will be a new team that has not historically worked together, so there will be exciting opportunities to explore ways of enhancing collaborative and more efficient service delivery with the skilled and experienced team members. Their ongoing development and growth as a team will be an important responsibility as the GM.

To be considered for this role, you will need to have been a senior executive manager who has successfully and consistently led delivery of strategy and development activities within a local government environment. It will be important that you are an inspirational team leader, who has proven stakeholder relationship development and management skills with communities and iwi. You must be an innovative long term thinker, who understands communities, business, the environment and economic drivers, and who can also lead and deliver organisational wide projects. It is essential that you have a highly personable and engaging manner, are an articulate and authentic communicator, and have a relevant tertiary qualification in business management, strategy or environmental planning or equivalent.

This role will have significant challenges and opportunities to grow personally and professionally, and will suit an experienced senior manager who wants to progress their career and build a new team.
