Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki has a number of entities that are responsible for improving and revitalising the Iwi across a number of environmental, cultural, social and commercial projects.

The role of the Tumu Ahurea is to focus primarily on positive wellbeing outcomes for tribal members in the areas of Taiao/Environment, Housing, Health and Wellbeing, Education, Reo/Tikanga Revitalisation and related kaupapa.

To deliver these outcomes, you will need to be able to plan well, work effectively with external stakeholders, like local and central government organisations, and ensure fit for purpose tribal communication occurs, using all forms of media.  You must also be able to lead and build a strong, nimble, multi skilled and high performing team, and actively contribute to the Executive Team. Ensuring that there are clear policies and procedures in place to guide activities, will also be important, as will be the ability to obtain external funding for projects. Your immediate responsibilities will include drafting a Community Development Strategy, facilitating a Taiao Plan, supporting existing Education and Housing initiatives, and managing a small team of kaitiaki who operate throughout the Tāmaki Makaurau – Auckland region.

It will be important that you come from having a proven background in Māori business operations, ideally with an environmental focus. You must have strong relationship management skills, especially in dealing with complex stakeholder environments. The ability to work with and support Boards will also be important to be successful in this role, as well as the creativity to access funding sources to supercharge the mahi.  You must be highly personable and likeable, have good self-awareness, and be able to grow and lead a team. A practical understanding of community development, financial management, and proven experience in working with local and central government on joint environmentally focused projects would be an advantage. A relevant tertiary qualification is highly desirable.
