Job Type

Waikato Local Authority Shared Services Limited (WLASS) is a company that is owned by 12 Councils in the Waikato region. Its primary focus is on initiating, promoting and coordinating opportunities for reducing costs, achieving efficiency gains and eliminating waste to enhance the services provided by the Councils. Improving customer experiences is another important area of focus.

The new Board is seeking an experienced Board Chair to challenge, lead and mentor the Directors, as they focus on developing effective strategies to transform the business and what it delivers in the future.  You will be expected to bring to the Board a strong commercial perspective, independent and challenging thought, creative ideas, and a drive to deliver enduring strategic savings and efficiencies in the ways Councils deliver services to their customers.  It will also require the formation and maintenance of strong personal relationships with the Council Mayors and CEOs, along with some key external stakeholders.

Key attributes sought for the role will include proven successful Board leadership, well developed strategic thinking capabilities, and the ability to effectively front presentations and meetings with politicians, business and community leaders. You must be highly personable, self-confident, have strong relationship management and communication abilities, be able to challenge the status quo and present fresh perspectives and commercial realities, and can facilitate sound and practical decision making. In addition, you must have proven experience in developing Director capabilities and Board performance. Involvement in strategic business/digital transformation is highly desirable.

This is a highly influential role that will appeal to an experienced Board Chair seeking a new challenge, and the opportunity to positively impact the Waikato region.
