Job Type

The key focus of this influential leadership role is to ensure the delivery of high quality infrastructure strategies and services related to waste minimisation for communities living in the Waitomo District. It will include involvement in helping to increase awareness by communities and schools on how to minimise waste and the active participation in regional initiatives. Solid waste infrastructure management will be another key area of responsibility, and will include working with key community stakeholders and the Ministry for the Environment on long term strategies, as well as managing the transfer station, landfill, kerbside collection and ensuring compliance.

Reporting to the General Manager Infrastructure Services, you will be expected to be an active contributor to the strategic development of the District, and an inspirational leader for the skilled team and wider organisation. The organisation is poised to strengthen its culture, and you will contribute to the enhancing of this. You will also bring a strong pragmatic and service oriented perspective and rigor to decision making, and the way that the organisation engages with the community.

To be considered for this role, you will need to be a strongly people oriented and relationship manager, who has led a waste minimisation function and/or team. The Council is open to non-local government relevant experience. You will need to show that you can form and maintain strong working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including community groups and iwi. It is important that you are a creative thinker and problem solver, are considered and decisive, are customer service oriented, and are well organised. A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental, science or engineering is essential. You must be a strong team player.

The role will appeal to an experienced Team Leader wanting to progress their career to a challenging management role, with an organisation that is nimble and punches well above its weight. The position will be based in Te Kuiti, which is located close to a range of lifestyle and recreational opportunities.
