Te Waka is Waikato’s new and exciting Regional Economic Development Agency, which has been established to lead and facilitate economic growth and development in the region. Its focus is on the attraction, retention and growth of investment, wealth, talent and business, given the significant opportunities that exist in Waikato.

This new role, which will report to the Chief Executive, will be responsible for developing and delivering creative integrated strategies for growing the regional economy for the Waikato, in particular, increasing business and job opportunities and growing targeted wealth creating sectors. It will be a stand-alone role that will require getting alongside business owners, entrepreneurs and funders, to assist projects and/or initiatives to become investment ready, and expand in the Waikato.

To be successful, you will need to develop strong and enduring partnership relationships, and be able to facilitate meaningful collaboration between interested parties. You will also be required to coordinate regional and national funding strategies and channels to support new initiatives.

To be considered, you must have had senior management experience involving investment strategy planning and delivery, ideally with a regional economic/business development focus. A strong and practical understanding of the needs and drivers of central and local government, and entrepreneurial business owners and leaders, is essential. You must be highly skilled in strategic relationship development and management, and be able to engage confidently with politicians and the senior managers of influential business and sector groups. It is important that you are a proven thought leader and a highly capable project manager, with high attention to detail, supported by excellent oral and written communications skills. You will be able to work autonomously, are well organised and be able to meet challenging deadlines and budgets.
