The New Zealand Law Society (NZLS) is responsible for the regulation of the legal profession, and this team leadership role is accountable for leading the processing of complaints for consideration by Lawyers Standards Committees in the Auckland region. It will also be involved in contributing to strategies for improving the management and assessment of complaints nationally.
A key focus of this role will be the effective leadership and professional development of a skilled team based in the Auckland branch. You will also attend committee meetings and undertake a secretariat or investigatory role as delegated by them. In addition, there will be oversight for the regulatory practice approvals and enforcement of any relevant committee requirements. There will also be an educational focus to the role, in terms of the targeted delivery of seminars and presentations.
To be considered for this role, you will need to have had proven team leadership experience within a legal environment at a senior level, and have an understanding of the nature of the profession and the role of the NZLS. An ability to understand and work with legislation, the capability to produce a quality written work and excellent oral communication skills are essential. The ability to plan and effectively manage a varied workload for a team will be an important skill, along with advanced legal research and investigative abilities are also important requirements for the role, as is a relevant tertiary qualification.
